Up to 10.000!

For the sixth consecutive year and for the ninth time in the event’s history we have over 9000 registered for the Asics Firenze Marathon. At this moment we have 9700 registered and registration is still possible through midnight tonight, November 17. We could have over 10000 registered, which has only ever happened four other times in the event’s history. We’ve already got more registered than last year’s 9500.
On November 26 the 34th edition of the Asics Firenze Marathon is back as the second most attended marathon in Italy. Athletes from all over the world representing over 80 countries will flock to Florence. Together with the marathon is the Ginky Family Run which starts in Piazza della Repubblica at 9:00am. The run is 2km long and could have more than 2000 registered. Registration is open until the Saturday before the marathon.
The race course is similar to last year’s with the starting line in Piazza Duomo at 8:30am (also the finishing line), although the route itself has been slightly modified, re-measured and re-certified to bypass road work at certain points.
The event was presented yesterday at Palazzo Vecchio together with the sports minister of the Comune di Firenze Andrea Vannucci, Firenze Marathon President Giancarlo Romiti, Fidal Regional Committee President Alessio Piscini, and Asics sponsor representative Maurizio Damilano. The event opened with memorial remarks regarding Remo Pavia, Firenze Marathon advisor and manager of the Marathon Expo for the past two years, who passed away just a few days ago.

The race is still full of history and beauty, combined together in enthusiastic welcome from the city and its people to the runners and their friends and families. A ring that circles the entire city of Florence, with 80% taking place in or around the historic city center. The warm welcome the athletes receive will be amplified by the Huawei Clap Contest wave of energy initiative, which will bring together musical acts to perform along the course, keeping the public enthused. The Clap Contest is organized together with the Comune di Firenze Culture and Sport Commission and the Huawei Consumer Business Group Italia, multinational world leader in telecommunication, and the premium sponsor and mobile partner of the Firenze Marathon.
There will be around 2500 volunteers along the race route, hundreds of pacemakers coordinated by Training Consultant, and many events taking place during the week leading up to the marathon, in particular related to the Marathon Expo, located inside the Asics Firenze Marathon Stadium near Campo di Marte, a huge sporting exhibition that opens to the city of Flroence on Friday and Saturday before the race from 9:30am to 8:00pm with free entry and over 30,000 visitors. Technical exhibitions that attract many athletes will be taking place as well. The entrance is on Viale Malta 10.
And on Sunday, thousands of families will take part in the Ginky Family Run, the run/walk of 1.5km beginning at 9:00am in Piazza della Repupubblica. All participants will receive an official blue Asics t-shirt. Registration is free for those under 14 years of age, while it costs €10 for those over 14 years of age. All proceeds go to the civic associations that organize the event. Registration is open through Thursday, November 23 at 6:00pm at the Atletica Firenze Marathon offices located at Viale Fanti 2, at Isolotto dello Sport located on Via dell’Argingrosso 69 a/b (until 7:30pm) and at the Firenze Marathon Wellness Gym located at Viale Malta 10. Participants can also register at the Marathon Expo on Friday or Saturday at the Ginky Family Run stand.
Among the events in the days leading up to the marathon, during the Expo “The fastest, strongest and most resilient of Florence – CONAD Trophy” will take place on Friday, November 24 at the Asics Firenze Marathon Stadium. The seventh edition of the athletic event that hosts young athletes from Florence’s schools in various athletic competitions. The event, subdivided in a morning and afternoon session, is organized by the Firenze Marathon and Firenze Marathon Atletica together with the Sports and Education Ministry and the Comune’s Sports Coni with the objective of promoting athletics among young people and creating a day to celebrate teaching sports. Young student athletes will be subdivided into age categories.
On Saturday, November 25 at 10:00 at the Asics Firenze Marathon Stadium is the 30x1000 meter Relay – Mauro Pieroni Trophy, which returns for its fifth edition. Those who wish to participate without a team will be assigned to an incomplete team. This is an opportunity to have fun and participate in a marathon event and release some tension before the big race. Registrations take place at the Firenze Marathon office at Viale Fanti 2 or at the Training Consultant office at Via F.G. Angelico 36/11 in Florence.
Marathon Mass will take place for its fifth consecutive year at the Church of Santa Maria Novella on Saturday, November 25 at 6:00pm. This year the high mass will be held by Monsignor Melchor Sanchez de Toca, undersecretary for Culture and Sport at the Vativan, marathon runner, and president of Atletica Vaticana, a team that will take part in the Firenze Marathon with four athletes. Free guided visits of the Basilica will be available from 4:00 – 5:30 pm for marathoners and their guests. Bring a race bib to participate.
The long marathon week will conclude with the Marathon Party involving music and shows on Sunday night with a typical Tuscan dinner at a special price and images from the race being shown on a big screen. The party takes place at ObiHall, just off the Milano-Roma highway, and will host over 700 people.
