FirenzeMarathon 2016: the race

And it's Ethiopian Teshome Shumi Yadete to win the 33rd Asics Firenze Marathon in 2h11'57", the fifth time an Ethiopian stands on the first place podium in Florence. Yadete was a newcomer to the 42 km and 195 meters and boasts a 1h04'03" as a personal best in the half marathon, completed in Lille, France in September 2014. Second place was Richard Kiprotich Sigei, Kenyan, in 2h14'15". Splendid in third place was the young Italian Eyob Gebrehiwet Faniel, also a newcomer to the distance, with a time of 2h15'39".

The women's winner was also Kenyan, like last year. Winny Jepkorir completed the distance with a time of 2h28'46", the second best female time in Firenze Marathon history.

Second place went to Fatna Maraoui, Italian from the sporting group Esercito, who just missed her personal best (achieved in Valencia 2015) by 2 seconds. She closed in 2h30'52", the eighth best female time and all-time female Italian record at the Firenze Marathon. Third place on the podium went to Belorussian Nastassia Ivanova with 2h32'11". The winners were received at the finish line with Giotto's bell tower and the Duomo in the background. 8,670 athletes participated in the event.
